JoeNobody
I've seen an R driving around Reading recently. Lovely looking motor, in blue, like this one:
mb
Absolutely - the RS4 is a great "compromise" for those of us who only want one car & can make the numbers work for them - in my case it is self funded but most of my mileage is business & can claim back at 40p. So less worried about cost per month more total in/total out. MMT - have you seen S5 prices look like a lot of coupe for the money when saw one at Audi the other week or would you get something with less style more go ? mooch
I had an Avant for 7 months, and averaged 16mpg - mostly town driving, brakes are approx £1000, and £800 front and rear respectively, servicing very cheap. Warranty is indeed £1600, whoever said £399 above is talking rubbish, as that wont be a AUDI warranty. Fantastic cars, but if you want a economical town car this isn't it, but in all other situations is phenomenal, boy Id love to own and GT3 RS and have this as a runabout!! Oh and a milltek catback is essential, just to release the noise. Rs buckets are essntial, as is the FMFSW and if possible Nav, but this is an easy retrofit.Good luck in finding one No, not rubbish, thats what I paid from Tonbridge Audi, to extend on my RS6, and 3 A4's £399.00 to extend the warranty from Audi at the time of purchase. Granted it is administered by Inchcape thru Car care plan, but it is an Audi supplied warranty. I have had 2 new IC's, 2 new lambdas, 2 new heads and 2 new turbo's, oh and a gearbox. It was my choice where I had the work done, whether at Audi or at a specialist. I chose a specialist. Short of scanning and posting the paperwork here, trust me, if you buy from Audi, you can extend your warranty for less than £1500 (or you could 4 years ago)
MiguelMcTyson
what have they done to it? It's got updated springs and dampers, bigger wheels and brakes as well as a remap

Audi indeed wanted £1600 when i asked them 2 weeks shy of mine going out of warranty. Decided to keep the money and hope all is well. P_G
Wopps, I've owned an RS4 for three years now and the running costs are not that bad. If you are going to buy one then do get one with a warranty but TBH I have run mine without one for the last year and had no issues thus far so in effect has saved myself the £1665. Costs wise I have averaged 22.7mpg, £70 tank of fuel will get me around 300+ miles combination of motorway, town driving and weekend 'blasts' People saying brakes are £1500 haven't shopped around. Front discs can be had new for £500 (needed every 20-40k miles dependent on how heavy you are on them), same for the rears (40k+ miles). Brake pads for around £170 front and rear. It will use an occasional litre of oil. Service costs if you provide your own oil and plugs reduce from £320 AVS1 and £500 AVS2 from Audi to £160-180 for AVS1 and £250-300 for AVS2 (intervals are typically 16-18k miles). Tyres dependent on what you want will range from £680 (Vredesteins and F1's)to £1300 (PS2's) fitted for four. Best bit about them for you though is that they have last the bulk of their depreciation. Some people have managed to pick up an RS4 in recession and run it for 12 months and still get back what they paid for it. A Rocco R despite how good they are will still depreciate. That and the V8 is a peach. DRC is covered for 5 years / 75k miles and KW V3's afterward are only £1300 fitted if you did want to change. Many mention carbon build up because of FSI and power down on dyno runs however it is all subjective and somewhat unproven. Put it this way, bar brake discs, pads, 1l of oil every 3-5k miles, tyres and servicing I have not had to outlay any money on my car in three years of ownership. If you do get one the best mod for it is Hotchkis sway bars front and rear for around £300 and an hour of your time. Milltek does make it more vocal which is always a good thing. I think the RS would put a bigger smile on your face day to day than you might think. Edited July 14, 2010 by P_G

Woppum
Well thanks mate but a little late. MAtt sorted me an R that was too good to refuse. Very happy with it, but only 550 miles so far but the RS has 6000 miles? An RS4 is nice, but the roccy is slightly less expensive as a comp car and less chance of something going wrong and if it does comp covered. im happy with my choices

Just because you purchased it from an Audi dealer doesn't make it any AUDI wattanty..............Oh and we're talking RS4 which quite clearly you are not - DOH Edited July 20, 2010 by Oli
PetrolDave
Just got the extended warranty renewal documents for my RS4. It's gone up from about £1100 last year to over £1600 this year - an almost 50% increase! No way am I paying that. I've a mind to write to them asking why with inflation at less than 4% they've increased their price by nearly 50%.
Tipex
Standard procedure with warranty co's I'm afraid, as the car gets older, the risk of a major component failure, and therefore a warranty (or insurance, as that's ultimately all the warranty is, an insurance policy) payout is much greater. Shop around though, as like most things you can normally find cheaper policies, just check the exclusions and max payouts.

The Audi extended warranty price isn't age dependent - it's the same cost for a 3 year old to a 9 year old car. So I paid £1100 last year on a 3 year old car, but an RS4 owner this year with a 3 year old car will be asked to pay £1600. That's a rip off... garcon magnifique
But coincidentally, it probably is about 50% more likely that the RS4 will have a major failure in its 3rd year than in its 2nd...

Don't think that's proven - the first failure I had was in the 4th year - offside auxiliary radiator corrosion (a known B6/B7 issue). ??? The third year is still covered by factory warranty. Extended warranty is only for years 4 onwards.

mb
Are you saying that cynically because that is where they clip the warranty off or is it statistically correct ? Reason I ask is Toyota just increased warranty from 3 to 5 years & am sure haven't overhauled production just gambling for the added PR so would be interested if is based on some research. Has the warranty hit Toyota used values heavily as new cars have 2 years extra warranty on them as would expect Toyota market to be cash rich & risk adverse when comes to their motoring purchases ? Merlot
The length of a warranty is driven by what manufacturers' can get away with in a given market. In the US warranties are typically four years whereas three years is the norm in the UK. Toyota going to four years is great for consumers as Honda and Nissan will have to as well now. Question is, will Ford/Vauxhall and the Germans then follow?
