Tipex
I know it's easy to say, but I never, ever, ever, sit in the blind spot of a lorry. I'll always hang back until I know I can get all the way past, or make sure there isn't anything blocking or likely to block, my escape path to the 3rd lane as in that clip.
E-bmw
Couldn't agree more Mr T, after a very good friend of mine was very nearly killed by exactly that accident I do the same ALWAYS!

Scotty
Wen I did my advanced test, before we set off the copper gave me a briefing of what he expected. He was very clear that speed limits were mandatory except in two situations : (1) stuck behind a iffy load e.g. a loaded skip lorry (get passed and away) (2) if stuck near an artic. If fact he said if he found me riding along next to an artic he'd just fail me. You need to be on your toes around them. Oh and don't ever get caught with one in front and one behind. You're car is viewed as the following drivers crumple zone!!

E-bmw
Ran over a full extending aluminium ladder in the fast lane of the M62 once! At feckin'.....er 68 mph, your honour.
Tipex
I had a full sheet of plywood fly out of a skip lorry in front of me once, amazingly the wind caught it and it sailed just over the top of my car, landed behind me and the car behind drove over it thankfully so no damage. garcon magnifique
I remember once sitting in our Scout van on the way back from camp looking out the back window when one of our tables managed to detach itself from the roof rack and took flight. It flew surprisingly well, caused several hilarious manoeuvres by drivers behind us before losing lift and hitting the deck with enough force to smash it to bits, thankfully missing all the traffic. The sheer lack of observation and awareness displayed by 99% of car drivers around HGVs is startling. There seems to be a general approach of "I'm in the right [whether they are or not] so it doesn't matter what anyone else is doing".

Tipex
Cyclists suffer from that a lot, being 'dead right' ain't gonna help you.
CarMad
I always find it strange that people sit along side lorries sometimes on a dual carriage way rather than pass it and pull in just to annoy people. Its about as dangerous a place to be. As scotty mentioned when I did my defensive driving they said the same never sit along side a lorry, always have an exit route and beware of the circle of danger that surrounds dangerous situations. You can sense when you aren't in the right place and if you need to get past or drop back if you think about things 'all the time'. So so many people drive with their brains switched off. Mac
That's nothing. Once I was driving and a WHOLE LORRY came apart and flew over the top of my car. It then turned into a ROBOT. This cyclist then ran through all the red lights and then pissed in my fuel tank, but not before I'd stopped a robbery using just my used underpants. Honestly, the stench of perfect drivers is strong on this board ☺ Perhaps we should just summarise these posts in future: This happened Tipex: THATS NOTHING insert bigger experience and express superior road knowledge Everyone else: solemn head nodding, we are definitely all above average. *Post may be sponsored by lunch.

patently
I aspire to a society where all drivers are above average. I hate to say it, but that's theoretically possible, dependent on how you define "average", provided there is a very skewed population. For example, let's say you have a large number of drivers who are all around the same level of competence, and one driver who is absolutely useless, forever skidding off into tyre walls barriers, hitting other drivers, spinning in the middle of the track road and so on. (Obviously we won't try to name this driver or equate him to any TSN member, as that would be childish and silly ) But in that population, the average (=arithmetic mean) standard would be a bit below the general level of the large number, and way above my level the level of the errant driver. So most of the drivers would then be above average
Tipex
Mac fundamentally misunderstands what Internet forums are for, if only we could all be like him then there wouldn't be any need for forums. Tipex
That's why forums are pretty much in their death throes TSN certainly is, mind you, it has been for a while and it's still here plodding along with the same few contributors most of the time. If it wasn't for forums, where would like minded folk find each other to talk bollox all day instead of working?
