Woppum
You won't mate! Who you getting the mod done with? What Did they quote you?
ChrisCSL
Copied your route with BDM from a previous post. Costing as quoted on the link to Pure GT site. BMW M3 E92 Exhaust Modification by BDM To be honest, I could get done cheaper elsewhere but from a more back street operation. As BDM have experience and seem more reputable, I ok to pay a little more for what I hope is piece of mind for a quality job. Hope I like it :-)
Andrew
That does sound pretty special. Hmmm, really not into modding the M3 but that is very tempting indeed.
ChrisCSL
Got the exhaust mod done today. Sounds great. Really pleased :-) A little loud(ish) on cold start. After that at idle and little throttle it's similar to standard (with a little deeper note). One you get the revs up it's proper V8 muscle car sound. YEAH!!!! No resonance or problems. Very pleased. Biscuits
Great result. Always loved the M3 on cold-start... wished it sounded like that all the time. Sounds like this mod is the best way to go.
ChrisCSL
I've been enjoying the car even more now with the exhaust mod. Very pleased with it's discreet nature at low revs, nice burble then V8 muscle car fireworks when the revs are up. Compliments my BMC air filter. Also impressed with Backdraft Motorsport. Would use them again. Some nice Race Lambo's in the workshop. Thanks Woppum for posting the tread in Dec as you were the final straw for me to finally get it done. Cheers. Woppum
No problem matey. Can vouch for mark too. He looks after my gt3 too and has set it up so much better than the factory. Great service and fair prices.
MrMPG
Had my oil 'bong' sound yesterday and its showing low on the indicator - just ordered 4L of Castrol Edge 10w60 to top up - is it worth a full oil change or just topping up as it still has another 6000k to next service? Plus, are they quite thirsty on oil or is it something to keep an eye on?

Mine used to use a litre between services, just put a litre in when it bongs +1 and you'll be fine
MrMPG
Ok great, just waiting on the order from Opie. Just got back from a short drive and noticed a DRL out too - from what I understand its an H8 35W bulb from halfrauds and just one bulb required. Biscuits
Yep, standard H8 35w lamp. One lamp runs both rings (that's why one is brighter than the other )
MrMPG
Never noticed that before - how strange it does that . Now I just need to find some 'small hands' to get the job done.
MrMPG
Well, my 'M' is poorly - started it on Saturday and noticed a rattling noise coming from engine area, started it today and it sounded like a diesel!! So it's gone into my local BMW to be looked at, even the mechanic advised me not to drive it as it sounds metallic, they can't get to look at it properly until Thursday when they can start taking the engine apart ....thank god I got extended warranty!! Biscuits
Oh dear, not good MrMPG To be honest you're the first person I've heard of that's has an engine problem... this is when a manufacturer warranty saves your bacon !
MrMPG
Yep, i'm the first i've heard of too - had a few BMW's in the past and apart from the odd niggle with sensors etc. they've never skipped a beat, until now. When the mechanic tells you he can't hear which side of the engine bank its coming from it gets slightly worrying as i doubt its just a screw loose. I've not changed anything either, same fuel, topped up with the recommended oil recently too....we shall see.
Andrew
I thought the coil packs were prone to failure? My LCR sounds distinctly worse each time one goes.
patently
Coil pack died on my 330Ci (E46) once, have it the same "sounds like a tractor" symptom. Different engine though, obviously!
MrMPG
Well, car has been at BMW for just over a week and they've determined the problem is that the variable valve timing valves are damaged...apparently if they aren't changed they will damage the engine at some point, hopefully this was the weird rattle'y noise I could hear?? Anyway warranty people are on the case and hopefully it'll not be too long before its sorted.
Andrew
Blimey - I wonder how much that lot will cost (I know it is under warranty).
Mook
Blimey - I wonder how much that lot will cost (I know it is under warranty). As soon as warranties get into oily bits the price gets hideous. Claim from the main dealer on my S4 to replace all the cam chains and gears was over £5k
