wcs_80
Hey guys Just wondering what products you all you use to clean your exhaust tips? It was mentioned in another post, and Im always struggling to get my tips sparkly new. I've used metal polish in the past, but that wont remove the carbon and filth that builds up! Cheers!! Leppy
I have this problem on my New Gti twin pipes. They look spotted and discoloured a yellowy colour after only a month. In another thread it was recommended to try oven cleaner, which I tried to no avail. Would the steel wool not scratch the exhaust tips? Any other suggestions? malagus
if very fine it shouldn't. the yellow sounds like unburnt fuel, so try a good metal polish.
Calm Chris
Mr Muscle oven cleaner. Spray it on the metal (not the paint) clean the car, by which time the Oven cleaner should have eaten most of the oil, fume and carbon deposits. Works for mine! Drewcam
Solvol Autosol will remove built up carbon tar marks and even sort out the yellow tinge marks. Its bloody great stuff, just rubb in with a cloth using swirling motion and then buff with clean duster. If it does not take everything off first time just do it again until sunglasses are needed for the shine.
NewNiceMrMe
Meguiars NXT Metal Polish with 2 pieces of cotton polishing cloth. 1 x for the hard work of initial polishing 1 x for the buffing. Bring's the pipes up nice and shiney every time, no matter what amount of grime they've been subjected to. In fact here's an example of just how good a job it makes of them - and this is after a 40 mile run out.... Incidentally, they key to maintaining the shine is a simple one - you must make sure you do them every week, or at worst every two weeks. If you let it build up crap for any longer than that it's much harder to keep the shine on the inside of the pipes.

P_G
I do, what's wrong with that?. Autoglym metal polish works for me and if really stubborn 0000 steel wool on the insides. Doesn't scrtach in combination with the paste.

P_G
Dirty boy, too much time on your hands in the Middle of the desert, that's your problem! Sponge, Regular exhaust tip maintenance does make them easier to keep clean generally. Only takes a total of 5-10 mins to do dependent on how vigorous you are at polishing. Sponge
I hear what you're saying about regular maintenance - I apply the same principle to the reat of my car. I just can't see the point, in my case, of cleaning the exhausts. I guess in some systems on some cars it's worth it, but just not for me.
