yes Audi is expanding its RS portfolio. Sharing showroom space with the RS5 and TT RS from next April will be the RS3.

They'll actually make that? So with a map and a few little bits you'll be looking at 400bhp? In a car the size of a Golf? Man!.......

But £45k then tuning costs extra?

Riz :D

Riz - it's only money, go for it !! You know you want to, it's been on your wish list for as long as I've been on TSN !!! :eclipse:
It has indeed but it would mean considering selling the R32 and then mentally blocking out 2nd hand cars like the Porsche GT3, Audi RS4, GT-R etc

Riz :)

try a gt3 riz. will be soooo much cheaper over a couple of years than this. just as comfy too! could get a 997 turbo mk1 for 50k ffs, no matter how much tunning you do it wont touch that, esp not on your fave roads.

Get that - I mean out the box cars +++

not being pernickety but i think the mk6 gt3 is a bit faster than the csl out the box, at least in a straight line and out the corners. there is very little in it but what should be said is the gt3 performs at 100% every time whereas the csl sometimes feels at 80% (if that makes sense). a novice like me though is much quicker in a csl than pork, the bm just makes it so easy. that said id still have a csl over anything below a mk1 rs. it was the love of my life and i sold her :( biggest regret!

fact of the matter is buying a csl and being a fairly good track driver it will be hard work keeping up with a well driven gt3 on any track. a big one like silly and it makes the margin even tougher.

Appears that the RS3 comes with Carbon Fibre front wings, and optional matt ally trim, much like the TTRS optional pack, it also appears that they have flared the front, and left the rear as standard, with tyres now being flush with the arches,to accomodate extra track width, if you look at an S3, there is quite a bit of spare room to move the offset out, without the requirement to flare existing arch, so people I have spoken to who have seen the mock up car at Audi presentation, which apparently was shown in such dim light any appraisal of the overall look was pretty difficult, say it looks pretty awesome from the front, and pretty bog standard from the back, which is a curious state of affairs, from an asthetic point of view, for a £40K "RS"

....Unfortunately the <'we didn't bother to design the back'> is evident in far too many Audi's. I guess that if the underfloor layout and battery location allows, the likes of Milltek may offer an exhaust exit option which is more traditionally 'RS'. Drop the suspension just a small amount and the rear stance will hopefully be much improved but I've always found the standard A3/S3 rear to be very disappointing aesthetically.

Red the car is laready lowered by 25mm, and due to the rear arches being no more flared than standard, I cannot see any further lowering of the ride height being possible, without physically tin bashing the arches out, or such like, the Miltek has to be a huge improvement over the bog standard conjoined "Oval" tail pipes

....You're probably right +++. The only point I was making was suggesting ways which might improve the stance and hence appearance from the rear. We won't know until it's landed in the UK and folks who know about suspension mods have had a look at it. The pics of it from Audi do look as if there's room for improvement - As with the TT-RS.

  • 2 weeks later...
For me, the RS3 looks too subtle. Where are the bulging wheel arches like the RS4/6?

You can't argue with the speed though, as fast to 60 as the R8!

Lol, not really fair to compare it to an r8. The rs3 will not be as quick in any situation.

500 may be thevnumber banded about but if Audi can they willsell more than that. Not sure they will though...

I went into Audi today and it was confirmed that only 500 will be made

If you put a deposit down, ask them how willing they'd be to give you £5k back if Audi later decide to make more? They'll obviously say they're just a private franchise and can't be responsible for what Audi do so get them to check with Audi.

I reckon they will have one hell of a job shifting 500 hundred of these..........7 year old design........standard exhausts............non flared rear arches.........odd tyre sizes..............estate with auto box.....................at £40K?

About the only thing RS about it, is it's feckin price.............throw in the lardy weight.........which a three door with manual would have reduced fairly substantially..........then I really dont see it as a big seller...........this car is more of an "Audi parts bin effort" than Audi RS IMHO, not for me...........Instead Golf R will be off to VWR in the new year for a bit of work

....Think of it another way: 7 year old design (only the basic platform) is well proven....Exhausts sorted with Milltek oval quads....Nothing wrong with Audi's S-tronic, it's far more than an 'auto box'....

Awesome engine (same as TT-RS)....Excellent performance whether the car is heavy or not....Provides more than the Golf R and I'm a Golf fan. But each to their own.

If the Golf R and the RS3 were exactly the same price, which would you choose?

I've just received a christmas card from VWR and will be up there in January too. Perhaps we should meet up and invite Cheryl Cole along as well  If you don't know already, VWR re-open on Jan 4th but are straight into a race prep so I'll be up there after the 17th, subject very much to snow! +++

I'm not so sure Audi will have trouble selling them, I think there is always a market for this type of car, look at how quickly the rs500 sold out...

I know that at my local dealer two people have already put down deposits before the order book has opened, and I suspect they will go quickly.

I must admit I'm not sure whether to take a punt or not, normally I like to see the early reviews and test drive the car, and the last few RS models have been a little bit hit and miss.
