CarMad Posted June 11, 2013 Report Share Posted June 11, 2013 I had a play with IOS7 today and it is different some bits a lot better but there isn't anything that is knock out wow really. I was looking at ways you can organise the files better like multiple select of apps to organise them but unfortunately not. Apparently some of the new features are iPhone 5 and above only so won't be available to many as well. Its all just a little bit brighter there isn't quite the depth or clarity of some things that there was is, its all a bit 2D in a 3D age really. Mac Posted June 11, 2013 Report Share Posted June 11, 2013 It's fixed a number of my annoyances already - multi-tasking is far easier (closing apps is a doddle), tiles are now live (clock for example, expect more), battery life is a lot better certainly on the iPhone 5, and it feels fresher. It's in some ways everything I like about Windows Mobile really. Revolutionary? No, not at all- evolutionary. Apple are different to people like Samsung - they don't just throw every function and feature out there and hope that it'll stick, they tend to focus on key stuff. The tech in me kinda enjoys the Samsung approach probably more than the Apple way...but then again, I'm not that *in* to phones, so I struggle to get excited about them anyways. Don't upgrade. Yours will crash. The iOS icons look awful. Since when were Leapfrog on the design team? If it saves iPhone 5 battery life then I want it today. Use of Facebook and Foursquare murders it. I got about 5 hours out of full charge yesterday. I wonder if all the Mac desktop range is going to go black, or just the Pro? I hope not. I think it looks like something out of the early 1990's. I need a new iPad as my first generation 64gb WiFi/3G has been a trusty servant but is now too slow after getting used to iPhone 5 speed. Surely if you wanted to take pictures and add effects you would be better off with a camera - not a phone. I have to say the difference in speed between the old 4 I had and the 5 is quite stark. Instant in almost everything it does. However, I am becoming frustrated with battery life. The latest Facebook app has been moreorless proven to be a killer of battery life on the 5, as is the Foursquare app. I had 2% left on my iPhone yesterday at which point I fired up Foursquare. I've got two SLRs, one professional and one pro-sumer and I still take more photos on my phone than anything else. Its the camera that you have with you that is often the best and the iPhone can take a pretty darn good picture and its why sales of comsumer level cameras is falling through the floor, why do I need an extra camera when I've got one thats pretty good with me already. Its actually the reason that I don't have a compact camera anymore and I'm hardly the kid generation who wants to take a photo of everything and post it on Facebook every two seconds. Umm, I'm not sure where you got that from but you're wrong. iPhone (all model) uploads to Flickr in the last 6 months - 175 million Canon EOS (up to 10 models) uploads to Flickr in the last 6 months - 661 million iPhone uploads have been rising and catching the traditional cameras, but yesterday there were still double the number of uploads from Canon cameras than there were from iPhones. I think you're getting the statistics mixed up with the number of Flickr users who use iPhones on Flickr. But they're far from the biggest uploaders of images Uploads from Nikons outnumber iPhone uploads too. The iPhone is the third most used device in terms of images uploaded. EDITED TO ADD: I got my time period wrong. I originally said the last 12 months above, it's actually the last 6 months. The volumes are remarkable. I get what you're saying and you would probably argue you'd take it on a camera then stick it on your computer and apply effects in Photoshop. Problem is no-one does that any more. Best iPhone gadget for me for ages has been Instagram - stuff you're quickly sticking on Facebook it's brilliant. It's the most popular camera, yes, in terms of average number of daily users. But it is a long way off uploading the most images. This is all the iPhone cameras (not iPads but their count is low anyway), but only a small fraction of the Canon and Nikon cameras (just the top 5 of all). They dwarf the iPhone in image upload volume. The Canon list of source cameras on Flickr goes to 220 models, and the Nikon list to 165, so it is understandable the iPhone is never going to get to the volume that range of cameras is uploading. The original point I was making though is a lot of the new features are rather gimicky in my opinion. I use my iPhone for snapshots, I agree with you on the type and volume of use it gets.
