Woppum
I actually find the CSL has poor steering feel when going at normal speeds. Its only on the high speed or pressured corners where you feel the tyres biting and the the wheel weighting up. The R32 I actually thought had better feel! RedRobin
Spot on, Adam - It is all very subjective. It's like females - It's a good job we don't all fancy the same ones! It's the fact that the M3 declares what it is rather than hiding behind a slightly more bland exterior (the big Audis still have great road presence coming past you on the German autobahns!), that I like. Each to their own.
Wallachie
E92 M3 for me all day long, and until recently I was definitely buying an RS4 when the Winter comes. RS4 is too grown up, I will enjoy the dark side of in your face BMW before retiring to pipe, slippers and Quattro!

gizze
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The M3 will handle better [/ QUOTE ] I doubt in any meaningful way to 99% of people unless you regularly track your car. I predict the M3 will have slightly better cornering and steering feel when you are travelling round bends at 9 or 10/10ths on a fantastic deserted Welsh roads. Which is great for pub bragging but not so relevant for real-world drving on normal roads with normal UK weather. See here for similar conversation: http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1133162/Main/1128270/#Post1133162 [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, this is where I have to totally disagree, the Audi comes alive when you are getting into silly territory, you need to be really at the edge to put a smile on your face in the RS4, the initial excitment of it power doesn't last long and then you look for more to keep you entertained and it isn't there, well what I am looking for isn't. Then get in an M3, takes those same twisty roads and you come alive, you really get to feel that the input you are giving is achieving something, the whole thing flows from corner to corner in way the Quattro never will. I can come back from a 60 mile cross country run in an M3 grinning like a mad man and not once have broken the speed limit, that, to me, is what a great car is all about. The RS4 you need to take it to 9/10ths of its performance to really enjoy , and you had better be doing that on a track because you are then at silly speeds. I would like an RS4 in my garage, and if I had the money to have one in there for when the weather makes it a better option over the M3 I would, however is it really worth it for the 7 days of snow we get a year? cruiser647
In the Autocar mag, they also showed the interior of the M3 and RS4. RS4 wins there. The M3 does not look special. IMHO. Plus, as already mentioned, the RS4 is a 4 dr saloon and the M3 is a coupe. If I was in the market, then it'd be the RS4 for practicality, (and looks, interior), but I am not, so for me it is subjective. Now, where's my lottery ticket - that is the only way I'll get one (either one)
Daz
But aren't they going to bring out the M3 in saloon and touring versions too? I also heard that there won't be a CSL model this time either.
CarMad
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Oh and its now dead level.. yep pure bias. [/ QUOTE ] Oh put your halo round your neck. You know as well as I do that a good proportion of people on here would buy an Audi over a BMW even if it drove like sh1te, looked like sh1te and was sh1te. Its a fact, and for you to ignore it makes you look silly. It wasn't directed at anyone in particular. The comment is a relevant one and most people on here know it. [/ QUOTE ] Just checking its still easy to wind you up. And yes course there are loads of biased people on here. I like Lexus a lot but most wouldn't give them a second look their loss hey. However I do think TSN is becoming more balanced that it might appear at times IMO.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, apparantly they are Daz, saloon and touring, not sure on the CSL but it is looking likely again, I think alot of people were hoping there would be no need as this car was said to have a carbon roof, and I think it was hopeful thinking that maybe it would almost be a csl anyway. cruiser647
Saloon pics in Auto Express. The saloon looks way much uglier than the coupe. Not a fan of the new 3 saloons. Coupe looks OK - hence they brought that out first?????
Mook
RS4 would be my choice, even if the M3 is quicker and handles better. Don't get me wrong, the M3 in its current guise is a mega car and the new one looks the dogs danglies.
AZURES3
I love this quote from the BMW site especially the A4 bit Personally I would drive them back to back and go for the one that suited my driving style and needs the best. If the M3 comes out as a 4 door I suspect it will appear to a much wider audience. I wonder what Audi have up their sleve to uprate the RS4 with a plus version etc AZ ---------------------------------------- The RS4 is a disaster. Put your hand over most of the car and analyse the three parts of it. The front 3rd looks like it belongs to a smaller car - maybe A3 The middle looks huge like it belongs to a big car - A8 The back looks like it could be fron an A4. Try it, there is one that appears in our car park every couple of weeks and I hate the looks.

[/ QUOTE ] Had an M3 for two weeks as a insurance runaround and in the wet it was a pain, could not get the power down and DSC was overly-intrusive. I liked it though, my only criticisms were: DSC as above Drab interior, same as 318i with satnav Hideously overlight steering but I did consider one when looking for latest car

RedRobin
The RS4 is a superb car, it's just that some of us prefer the new M3 Coupe. It's crazy comparing an Audi Avant with a BMW Coupe anyway imo - They fulfil totally different needs.
Mook
Saloon, Avant and Cabrio for the RS4, Robin - take your pick So how about a new M3 coupe versus an RS5 (if it ever happens)?
P_G
My twopenneth is the M3 will no doubt be a good handling car and for those who enjoy rear wheel drive motoring will appeal more than an RS4. For us who are a little more conservative to the rawness of our drive I would plump for an RS4 for the fact it has quattro and having driven the former M3 in the wet, the fact that quattro does me a lot more usability and reassurance particularly give how much rain our little country gets in proportion to bone dry sunny days. I would also look at an Avant veriosn and if the M3 does comes as a Touring I would seriously look at that, especially if it does give more usable boot space. (not personally convined about the A4 chasis load lugging credentials, more form ober function) However all said, the RS4 doesn't do too badly at all considering it is a 2-3 year old model being pitched against an brand new model, both design and chassis wise. Alastair_A3
The RS4 is probably my favourite Audi, but i'd still take an M3, i just think the E92 looks superb. Those who are saying the M3 interior is dull, dont know about you but the current B7 interior is just about as boring as it gets! All thats different in the RS4 is the steering wheel, cf trim and seats. M3 Saloon and Touring models will sell very well i reckon
